The US has sanctioned several Chinese companies and their top officials for allegedly shipping Iranian oil, as Washington tries to shut down Tehran’s crude exports.
China has emerged as one of the last remaining buyers of Iranian crude amid US attempts to bring Tehran’s export level to zero by eliminating export waivers as it ratchets up sanctions.
Two subsidiaries of Cosco, a major Chinese shipping and logistics company, were blacklisted by the US Treasury, although the parent company remains unaffected.
